Kim Sharma visited Australia this Diwali and came back with her shopping bags full
Kim Sharma went to Australia in October to celebrate Diwali with her sister who lives there. Though she had been there a couple of times before and visited places like the Gold Coast, Sydney, Perth and Adelaide, it was her first trip to Melbourne. Today, what stands out in her memory is, The Great Ocean Road, a stunning stretch a little away from Melbourne.
"Here the road is flanked by the sea on one side and the jungles on the other and you can spot really cute Koala bears everywhere. I would strongly recommend the Great Ocean Road to anyone who visits Australia," says Kim, who also loves the place because she finds the people friendly and very easy to communicate with.
To all party-hoppers, Kim recommends the many pubs and restaurants in Melbourne. "I loved the Irish pubs in the city, especially a pub called Silk Route where we used to hang out almost every weekend. There are also charming restaurants, but the best eating experiences were at my sister's home as my brother-in-law is a gourmet cook and he would cook the most delicious delicacies for the family," she smiles.
A voracious shopper, Kim thinks Australia is a shopper's paradise. "You get everything - clothes, bags, shoes and accessories. The malls there are huge and one can get almost anything and everything under one roof. I came back with my shopping bags full." Kim also recounts her experience at The Ybarra Valley, a wine-making region, which is an hour and a half drive from Melbourne and is a picturesque area with beautiful cottages and restaurants. "We did a lot of wine-tasting and gorged on great food. Swimming, fishing and hiking in the Valley was a great experience. I would go back to Australia for my sister for one. Besides that, I feel at home there. It's a beautiful country with amazing outdoors," she says.
